View of Markely Cove from Monticello Overlook Trail
Launch from Markley Cove and paddle across the Narrows to the beginning of an old road. The road proceeds east along the cove towards the dam as it climbs, steeply in places, and winds beneath a high powerline. The road and hike end at a steep cliff just above a power tower. It is dangerous and inadvisable to proceed beyond the end of the road. Here there is a grand view of Monticello Dam.

*Degree of Difficulty: Easy paddle (2 miles), moderate hike (2 miles), steep in places with elevation gain over 600 ft. (distances are one way and are approximate).
*Trail Condition: unmaintained and unmarked, trail follows old road and is obvious but rough in spots, needs trimming in spots.
